Homeowner Tools & Supplies I Recommend

A practical collection of tools and products that can help you understand, maintain, and protect your home after closing. I chose these with the same mindset I bring to an inspection: useful, dependable, and worth owning.
You’re not just a client. You’re part of the community.

Practical help after the report

Your inspection report helps you prioritize what deserves attention now, what to monitor, and what to plan for. This is a separate homeowner resource for common maintenance, monitoring, and upgrade decisions.

Before you buy: Confirm compatibility with your home and intended use. Electrical wiring changes, plumbing-pipe modifications, gas work, roof work, and similar repairs should be evaluated and completed by the appropriate licensed contractor.

LIFE SAFETY

10-Year Sealed-Battery Smoke/CO Alarm

Helpful for: replacing compatible alarms at the end of their listed service life.

EARLY WARNING

Water Leak Alarm

A simple alarm can provide an early warning near a water heater, sink, laundry appliance, or basement plumbing fixture. It does not repair a leak.

Helpful for: localized monitoring at common leak locations.

FIRE SAFETY

Multipurpose Fire Extinguisher

Keep an appropriate extinguisher accessible, follow its inspection guidance, and know when to leave the home and call 911 instead of attempting to fight a fire.

PRIMARY PUMP

Zoeller M98 Flow-Mate Sump Pump

A durable primary sump-pump option. The pit, discharge, check valve, float operation, and electrical supply must work together; a pump alone is not a complete solution.

Helpful for: planned replacement of a compatible primary sump pump.

BACKUP PROTECTION

Zoeller AquaNot Spin 508 ProPak Battery-Backup Sump System

A battery-backup system can provide pumping capacity during certain primary-pump or power-loss events. Confirm compatibility and have the system installed and maintained as a complete assembly.

FOUNDATION DRAINAGE

A splash block can help disperse water at the bottom of a downspout. It should still direct water away from the foundation and not create a trip hazard.

A product does not replace the right next step

If your report identified an active leak, recurring GFCI trip, drainage problem, combustion concern, or other defect, start with the report recommendation. A quality product may support maintenance or monitoring, but should not delay evaluation or repair by the appropriate licensed contractor.

How I curate this list

  • I prioritize proven brands, applicable safety certifications, manufacturer support, and practical homeowner use.
  • Before an affiliate link is activated, each selected model is cross-checked against at least three independent reputable editorial, testing, standards, or consumer-safety sources—not Amazon reviews alone.
  • For life-safety and child-safety products, the review also includes recall and standards checks.
  • I include higher-value equipment only when it provides a real homeowner benefit—not simply for a larger commission.
